ART AND DESIGN
Level 3 1 Credit
This is a year-long foundation course, which provides in depth instruction in the principles of design and elements of art. Students will explore drawing with graphite, conté, charcoal, and ink, painting with tempera and acrylic, monoprints and relief printmaking, collage, sculpture, ceramics, digital art, and artist’s books. Through direct experience and exposure to arts materials and resource materials such as prints, books, and the internet students begin to recognize their creative potential and individual strengths.
Specific studies focus on portraiture, natural forms, landscape and plein aire drawing, human-made forms and concept driven art during the course. The communication of ideas, feelings, and perceptions of our world are important goals for this course.
Art and Design - An Introduction
You have entered the quintessential art course of your high school career. We will focus on production of art while entertaining several concepts about creating art. Our scope includes art and design from throughout the ages from all over the world that covers the entire existence of humankind. (Not bad for 180 days!) Our sequence for this journey of the mind and soul follows the elements and principles of design. Through explorations of these building blocks of art we will see exemplars, discuss concepts, and produce much art. By the end of this course, you will be able to create original artwork with your own artistic intent and content.
The art we produce in Design in Art will be focused on you. Your sense of who you are, whom you want to be, your sense of community, and sense of place will all be the fodder for your work. Artists have been dealing with these issues throughout time. While taking inspiration from all of what we cover is this course, your artwork will chronical you right here and right now.
