Midterm Exam

The midterm portfolio is a time ordered collection of your work which made the final works of art.

Your portfolio must include:

  • Finished work
  • Sketches (preliminary, compositional, and color) for final works of art
  • Self-critiques for final works
  • Peer-critiques of final works
  • Art historical artifacts used in the creation one of the works of art
  • Approach to work evaluation for the final portfolio
  • Reflections on concepts and artistic intent to be viewer by evaluators

Specific Criterion for the works of art:

1. Three complete pieces of art demonstrating the following understandings:

  • a considered figure-ground relationship
  • a color scheme which is based on a stated color theory

2. Art work which demonstrate technical and aesthetic considerations in:

  • media specific considerations
  • compositional considerations
  • a clear understanding of the language of art employed to create the work of art

3. Two of the works in the portfolio will be major works with the at least two of following traits:

  • work exhibits scale and effort worthy of a major work of art
  • work exhibits technical proficiency worthy of a major work of art
  • work is accompanied by artistic statement discussing the content and intent of the work
  • work is clearly tied to an art historical reference (time, place, movement, artist) addressing issues which are easily perceivable by the general public once

Note: The whole portfolio will be compiled and presented in a professional manner to the class.
